Game Instructions –
A port for the Fujitsu FM-7 of the Avalon Hill game Planet Miners by Kiya Overseas.
This is a simulation game revolving around the acquisition of mining rights for the mineral resources of the 9 planets of the solar system and the asteroid Ceres. The game is played by 1 to 4 people.
When the game starts, it will ask, in order from Family 1, whether a player will take charge of that family. If you want to leave it to the computer, input “N”. If a player is taking charge, input “Y” and then enter the family name.
After you start the game you can make various choices. The list is in Japanese and can be brought up by typing in 0. Here’s the translated meaning –
0: Command Menu
1: Solar System Map. The outer planets will not be displayed.
Note: This is the “Large” or “zoomed-out” map. The text implies the scale is such that the furthest planets might be off-screen.
2: Planetary System Map. This is the same as 1. Input the number of the planet you want to display in the center.
3: Days required for interplanetary movement.
4: The status of each family’s mining rights on each planet.
5: The number of each family’s ships in each planetary orbit. The last column is the number of patrol ships.
6: The status of each of your family’s ships.
7: Designate ship’s destination. After setting the destination with SHIP NUMBER? and DESTINATION?, input the ship number to send.
8: Protest against another family’s mining rights.
By selecting the target planet and family, a negotiation will be held with that family’s fleet. If a consensus is reached, the mining rights will become common property.
9: To take over mining rights owned by another family. This is a command to take over rights by force. Select the planet from the screen. A patrol boat will intervene, and the result depends on which of the following happens:
1 Succeed
2 Fail
3 Not caught
In the case of success, you can acquire the rights. In this case, your Finesse and the opponent’s will influence the outcome. If you fail, your Finesse is reduced by 1, and the opponent’s Finesse is increased by 1.
10: Sabotage. Attack another family’s ship. If you fail, like in case 9, you will be penalized. The penalty is the same as for case 9.
11: By inputting this, that day’s operations will be finished, and the turn will pass to the next player.
Finesse –
This represents the ability of the ship’s crew, etc.
When there are 2 or more ships from the same family at the same planet, the square root of the sum of the squares of each ship’s Finesse becomes that family’s Finesse at that planet.
End of Game –
The game ends either when the owners of all planetary mining rights have been decided, or when the “Association” declares the end after Day 40, and the results will be displayed.
