Notes:
(1)
When typing in the listing exactly as it was in the magazine, I constantly received OM (out of memory) errors in Family BASIC v2.1. If you want to use this listing, you can either load it into Family BASIC v3 (which has more RAM) or you can use my space-rocky-2-prg-fixed.txt listing instead, which rearranges a couple of lines to free up 3 extra bytes and prevent the OM errors.
Game Instructions:
In Space Rocky II, your job is to collect rare space minerals. Travel through asteroid fields and use your scout to collect these rare minerals and bring them back to your ship.
Press Start to begin your game. Use Left and Right on the d-pad to control your ship and avoid colliding with asteroids. You can fit through narrow, single-block gaps, so don’t worry about cutting things close. There is also the occasional spark that shoots upwards; you will need luck or fast reflexes to dodge it.
There are two kinds of rare minerals. The shiny spherical kind and the shiny square kind. The square ones are worth 10 times as much, so you much better off going after those ones.
To collect the mineral, press the B button to fire off your scout. This will fire to your left or to your right depending on where your ship is — if you are more to the right, it will fire left; if you more to the left, it will fire right. You scout will move left-to-right on its own, changing direction when it collides with something. You can use Up and Down on the d-pad to control its vertical position. You need to try and steer the scout into the rare minerals and then steer back to your ship. If you do this, then you will get points for the minerals that the scout has collected. Be sure to keep an eye on your ship while doing this so you don’t crash into anything!
Once you have gotten enough points, you will move on to the next level. There are nine stages in total. Good luck!
