Fan-Translations and ROM Hacking Interviews by John Szczepaniak

Author John Szczepaniak reached out to us to help archive a lost forum topic, which is an interesting preservation request!

In March 2006, Szczepaniak questioned members of the romhacking.net forums, asking questions about the “scene” for an article he was writing for Retro Gamer magazine. A lot of the content was left unused by Retro Gamer in the article and Szczepaniak wanted to share these discussions with modern video game preservationists.

The questions, answers, and discussions are presented here as individual .php files that you can download and view below. Each candid response is a fascinating look at the relatively early days of the romhacking scene and hopefully will be useful to historians wanting to know more about internet fan culture around video games.

Enjoy, and let us know what you find!
