Pokemon-e TCG – R-09-# – Pikachu Spaceworld Sample Card

Card Details

This card for the Nintendo e-Reader was first shown off in Japan at Nintendo’s Shoshinkai (often called Spaceworld) show, which occured from August 24th-26th, 2001. It was one of the cards which demonstrated the functionality of the e-Reader and is part of a collective sample set of ten cards featuring other Pokémon: Spearow, Spearow (again), Clefairy, Psyduck, Dratini, Oddish, Abra, Caterpie, Pikachu and Wartortle. None of these cards were ever intended to make it into the hands of the public in their showcased form. This IGN article from back then has more details.

These Sample cards have both a short strip and a long strip dot code information as well as featuring some unique artwork and card IDs. These differ to their counterparts that were later released to the public via the “Base Expansion Pack” (Japan) or “Expedition Base Set” (International). This Pikachu card specifically features the ID R-09, and the long strip dot code is to be scanned with the Sample Oddish card (ID R-06) for further content. The short strip information can be scanned to display Pokedex information about Pikachu.

All credits for this particular release go to spika7777777, who graciously allowed us to preserve his copy of the card and worked to verify the dot code information. An additional special thanks goes to Qwachansey for putting us in touch, and endrift for helping with dot code extraction.
