Dengeki PC Engine – Dengeki G’s Engine – Every Issue Now Scanned!

We’ve hit another milestone: The complete issues of Dengeki PC Engine/G’s Engine are now scanned and available! This is our third complete run of a PC Engine focused magazine.

Like our other PC Engine magazine runs a HUGE thanks goes out to David Shadoff, who kindly lent us nearly all of our missing issues. Also our gratitude to our Patreon patrons for funding the rest of the issues David didn’t have. Lastly a big thanks goes out to resident scanner extraordinaire Joey Wawzonek (Detchibe) who handled scanning and processing issues 1-13.

Dengeki PC Engine might have a had a late start – with it’s first issue not being published until February 1993 – but it’s actually a spiritual successor to the earlier PC Engine focused magazine Marukatsu PC Engine (we have several scans of that magazine). According to the English Wikipedia article about the magazine, “Due to an internal struggle in Kadokawa Shoten near the end of 1992, a group of people split off to create the company MediaWorks on October 15, 1992. The ex-editor of one of Kadokawa’s gaming magazines called Marukatsu PC Engine was one of the former employees to go over to MediaWorks, and one of MediaWorks’ first magazines published was Dengeki PC Engine.

While both magazines ran concurrently for a brief time, Marukatsu finally ended its run in March 1994 while Dengeki PC Engine went on (under various similar names – obviously not entirely PC Engine focused) until December 2022! In June 1996, due to waning popularity of the PC Engine and the NEC PC-FX consoles, the name was changed from Dengeki PC Engine to Dengeki G’s Engine before the final name change to Dengeki’s G Magazine – which focused mainly on Bishoujo games for all consoles/computers. Because the focus on the NEC PC Engine & PC-FX largely ended at this point, we only scanned to the end of Dengeki G’s Engine’s run.

If the cover design looks familiar, you may be familiar with the works of illustrator Akira Sasaki (TONG KING SHOW) who originally did Marukatsu PC Engine’s covers. He was one of the defectors from Marukatsu and brought his talents to Dengeki PC Engine.

PC Engine coverage was the main focus of the magazine up until the first name change. As the focus considerably shifted, we have decided to release two separate torrents for the original Dengeki PC Engine and the Dengeki’s G’s Engine periods of the publication. Another reason you may want to only download Dengeki PC Engine is because adult content increased quite a bit after the name change (the magazine as a whole is 18+ Only!). You can also view all the issues on the Internet Archive.
